PASTEL SUPPLY LIST

Instructor: Taryn Day

Winter/Spring 2025

Please keep in mind that this is a class in soft pastels, NOT oil pastels. This supply list is for both the Pastel Landscape and the Animals in Pastels classes.

You will need both a set of pastel pencils and a set of soft pastels. If you are new to pastels, you might want to get the most affordable options of each. Keep in mind that the more colors you have, the better, but you will want to balance that with how much you are willing to spend.

In addition to the pastels, you will need the following materials:

  • An Exacto knife for sharpening your pastel pencils

  • Colour Shapers Tool - Cup Chisel, Firm, Size 2 or Taper, Firm, Size 2

  • Rags for wiping your hands

  • An old dishcloth or small towel for catching falling pastel dust

  • A shallow container (like a food take-out container) to keep your pastels from rolling

  • Another container for your pencil shavings

  • A sheet of two of fine sandpaper

SURFACES:

Please bring $20 to the first class to cover the cost of all the pastel surfaces used in the class.

OPTIONAL:

We will be working from images. If you own an iPad, you are welcome to bring it to class each week, but this is truly optional (there are enough larger screens for everyone to get a good view).

If you do bring an iPad, great- the image quality is superb. If you have a laptop without excellent image quality, it would be better to not bring it along.
